DFactory Barcelona, the heart of District 4.0, is moving forward with its expansion project, which will increase its current 17,000 m² to a projected 60,000 m² by the end of 2026.
Promoted by the Consorci de la Zona Franca de Barcelona, DFactory Barcelona has become an internationally recognized Industry 4.0 ecosystem, hosting over 40 companies within its 17,000 m² of space. These companies develop and utilize the technologies that define and characterize Industry 4.0. It is a space that fosters collaboration among its companies, making it ideal for creating synergies and attracting talent, technology, and both national and international investment. The Industry 4.0 ecosystem at DFactory Barcelona enables the generation of synergies and the establishment of partnerships among the companies present in the building. This management model has helped identify potential joint research lines and match the various scientific and technological capabilities of the different stakeholders involved.
The expansion of DFactory Barcelona will initially include four new buildings:
- The Cub building, with 1,100 m² of space
- Building A, with 24,370 m2
- Building B, with 11,640 m2
- Building D, with 2,300 m2
Cub Building
The Cub building will host major events in the city of Barcelona, as well as international events related to Industry 4.0 and the new economy, including presentations, conventions, and conferences organized by companies within the ecosystem.
Buildings A and B
Building A, located directly across from the current DFactory Barcelona building, and Building B will each have four floors: a ground floor dedicated to manufacturing and three upper floors housing laboratories, technology centers, and offices.
In addition to companies focused on robotics, advanced manufacturing, artificial intelligence, IoT, sensors, blockchain, and other technologies applicable across industries, DFactory also aims to attract tech companies in the health and agri-tech sectors. Barcelona is already a global capital in the health sector, and DFactory seeks to host technology companies in this essential area of the new economy, which is closely tied to quality of life.
DFactory also plans to welcome companies in the food sector, as climate change is driving new eco-agriculture methods that require significant technological development. The center is well-suited to host an innovation hub in this field.
Building D
The expansion also includes Building D, with 2,300 m² dedicated to services for resident companies, such as a dining area and various spaces for physical activity.
Construction is expected to be completed by the end of 2026, with the new facilities ready to welcome companies in early 2027.
